Goodbye, Andy ...

Just a short and personal tribute to Andy Williams, who died yesterday, September 25, 2012 ... Christmas at my house always included Andy and his family Christmas shows.  My Mom and Dad and all 7 of us kids sat around the TV with just the lights of our honest-to-goodness real Christmas tree.  I suppose now the shows would seem dated and even nerdy to a lot of people.  For me they will always be sweet and fun, and actually celebrated Christmas as the birth of the Savior.  What a radical, politically incorrect thing to do!  This is my favorite Christmas song which Andy sang for one of his yearly shows, a difficult song to sing, but he could really belt it out.  I can never listen to it without remembering those years with  my family.

  1. I have that album, and saw those shows, and have those memories, too. That's the neat thing. I hope Andy realized how many lives he touched just by singing pretty.

  2. When I think of Andy I think of him singing with his brothers. Their voices blended so perfectly, and the joy of singing and their affection for each other shone through the television screen.

  3. Becky, I can't think of a lovelier tribute to the late Andy Williams than this beautiful rendition of "O Holy Night"! It was a favorite in my family's home when I was growing up. Did he sing like an angel, or what? I'd once heard a rumor that when Lauren Bacall was in TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT, her singing voice had been dubbed by young Andy Williams. Stuff and nonsense, I say -- though I wonder if Bacall ever got to sing with Williams on a Bob Hope special or something! In any case, although he's no longer with us, thanks to technology, we still have Andy Williams' beautiful singing for all time!

    1. Sorry Dorian, but its true. Andy did dubb Lauren (only the high notes) I caught a lot of flak when I used this as a question on TT some time ago.

    2. And Paul was our TT expert! No one must question The Paul!

  4. Becky, I always think of "Moon River" plus a two-sided 45 that my brother had with "The Days of Wine and Roses" on one side and "Can't Get Used to Losing You" on the other. I was just a kid at the time and don't realize until years later that the latter was the big hit of the two.

  5. Andy truly was one of the great voices of the Christmas season. It is so sad to see another icon pass away this year.

  6. Nice post, Becky. I remember Andy and his specials. I have a friend who met him and thought him to be a genuinely nice guy. He will be missed.

  7. Such an amazing voice. No one can sing "Moon River" like he could.

What a nice tribute to Andy Williams. Branson won't be the same without him.

  9. Thanks for coming over, guys -- it's great to see how many of us have great memories of Andy Williams. I've mentioned his death to a couple of people who never heard of him. One of them said "I wasn't around in those days." Holy Moly! I like Al Jolson and I wasn't around when HE was either! We are lucky people to know our history of wonderful entertainers and movies.

    1. Thanks Dawn - you know me, I'm always redecorating. I can't help it! I do it be rearranging my apartment all the time. I've always said that the rich buy new mansions, the well-to-do redecorate, and the poor rearrange! Well, I'm in the rearranging department usually, but with my blog, I'm well-to-do! LOL! (I did get your email and appreciated hearing from you -- I'll write you soon!
